At spur of moment, we decided to take a two-session class on autumn gardening. After all, it was our first year with vegetables in our newly built hugelkulturs. The Autumn Gardening class was offered at Blue Ridge Community College, Transylvania County Campus, Brevard, NC, nearly an hour away.
We arrived early for our first of two classes, so we had time to drop in to what we though was just a regular ice cream shop that also served coffee… Love That Yogurt & Affogato Coffee Shop.
Atop of counter was a laminated sign with picture of what simply read ‘Affogato,’ and a picture of ice cream sundae. Affogato means ‘drowned’ in Italian. Drowned in coffee, I suppose. While Chie had a simple sundae, I took the bait… hook line and sinker! Affogato Sundae for me, please!!
Second week of class, and we were almost late. Almost couldn’t wait for our Affogato, had to wait until after class. Chie had one, too. We each had the same: the Affogato Frozen Yogurt Sundae!
It wasn’t really ice cream. It was frozen yogurt – but it sure tasted like creamy ice cream. At least one shot espresso. Topped by plenty of whipped cream, and a touch of chocolate sauce and caramel sauce.
A nifty coffee and ice cream shop. We both agreed 100%: When travels take someone through Brevard, NC, don’t miss a delicious whipped up expresso ‘ice cream’ (frozen yogurt) dessert. We would nominate the Affogato as Western North Carolina’s Best Sundae!
We’re thankful for being novice gardeners…
